PDP stands out for its knowledge of the roadside equipment, hardware, software, and systems integration needed to provide a smooth-running SWZ system. We are a systems company and pride ourselves on high quality customer service and training – we will never just ship out equipment and leave you struggling to make it work. As integrators, we understand every aspect of our business and can integrate the Smart Work Zone System with your existing ITS equipment. Smart Work Zones are not a side business for PDP. We are the smart work zone experts, meaning we can provide you with a high-quality, dependable system at a competitive price.
PDP was founded in 1996 by Dr. Prahlad D. Pant, after performing the initial R&D on Smart Work Zone Systems while a professor of Civil Engineering and Highway Transportation at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Pant published and presented the first Smart Work Zone study in 1995 at IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization for technology, and after forming PDP, installed the first non-experimental smart work zone system.
Independent Transportation Research Board (TRB) studies and a variety of other studies have confirmed the effectiveness of PDP’s systems:Horowitz, Weisser, Notbohm: Diversion from a Rural Work Zone Owing to a Traffic Responsive Variable Message Signage System, 1992, Transportation Research Board
Zwahlen and Russ: Evalutation of the Accuracy of a Real-Time Travel Prediction System in a Freeway Construction Work Zone, 2002, Transportation Research Board.
PDP has installed smart work zone systems in NH, CT, VT, MD, NJ, OH, KY, WI, MO, OK, AR, NC, SC, GA, FL, CO, OR, and TX. Some of these systems have generated awards for the Departments of Transportation that have installed them, such as the one awarded in 2011 to Connecticut DOT below for a system provided by PDP.
